Albany

We went inland from Dunsborough and went across country and down to Albany rather than go along the coast road this time.  The weather on the coast was expected to continue being rainy and cold so inland, dryer and warmer sounded like the better option. We only took two wrong turns quickly corrected which was quite a feat.

Albany is another astonishingly beautiful place and there was plenty of things to do and see there.

We went and had a look at the Amity Brig replica down on the town Esplanade.

Cap'n Geoff was checking out the crew sleeping quarters.

The front ribs of the brig toward the bow of the boat.

Where they kept their food supplies.  No refrigerators!

Here are a better class of quarters - Cap'n Geoff went and checked it out for size but there was a dummy dude already in there.

Captains sexton. Things are a lot more sophisticated these days but they still teach the boys how to do the navigational calculations by hand.  Geoff is old enough that he's used one of these. Ha! No I'mm in trouble!

Dummy dude close up. He's demonstrating how small the bunks are. Geoff decided he didn't want to buy a brig for his boat.

Geoff thought he would try out the steering wheel - the helm being the proper technical term I have just been informed. So..rry! He's enjoying himself..you think?

Bilge pump. Not electrical by the way.

The tiller which the helm controls to move the rudder below.

If you are bad you don't have to go to your room - you get sent to the crow's nest.

Fortunately for me but unfortunately for Geoff, this boat was going nowhere in a hurry!
After this we went off and looked at some of the spectacular natural sights around. We also went out to Whale World the next day.  Internet download is a bit slow at the moment so more pics later.
