Coober Pedy

Driving into Coober Pedy you are greeted with this sign.

A creative store front.
Coober Pedy has only one main street. Many of the buildings are built into the surrounding hills.  It really is a conglomerate of bushies camp rather than a town. All around there are mullock heaps where people have dug up the ground looking for the precious opal. Old mining equipment lies around in yards rusting away.

This is a very lifelike replica of a space module. It made us look twice and in the end we had to go up and check it out more closely!  The Coober Pedians are very creative!
These old sculptures are supposed to be moon trees or something,

Well at least someone got a camel ride! At least I think he was having a ride and not taking a chunk out of the camel's neck!
The contrast of colours against an overcast sky make for interesting landscapes.
