Hyden - Wave Rock to Coolgardie

As we were leaving the caravan park at Wave Rock a Vintage Car Club pulled up. Geoff couldn't resist and had to go and have a prowl around them. They were all in immaculate condition, revamped with loving car by their proud owners who were only to happy to show them off.

Then we were on our way to our next stop Coolgardie. I kept getting Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie mixed up, calling them Kalgardie and Koolgarlie or some other such mixed up names, much to Geoff's amusement.
I have to say I was suprised by the landscape! I was expecting to be driving into the more desert, arid plains of Australia, but instead it was undualting hills and valleys. Golden wheat crops and green meadows dotted with fluffy white sheep were everywhere you looked.

We decided to take the short cut through to Southern Cross rather than drive around the long way by bitumen.  We were told the dirt road was in good condition by others who'd travelled that way the day before so we decided to brave it.
In fact the dirt road was in better condition than many of the bitumen roads in Queensland!

Towards Southern Cross we saw this large open cut mine off in the distance. It added a bizarness to the landscape because it was surrounded by the green of growing crops.

We reached Coolgardie in the afternoon and found a caravan park on the main highway.  As Kalgoorlie was only a three-quarter of an hour way we decided to make this our base and explore from here.

There's not a lot to see in Coolgardie unless you are into old architecture.
