Kununarra

I LOVE THIS PLACE! The vibrancy of the colours, the contrasts against the backdrop of the clear, bright sky! Magnificient!
The mighty Ord River rivals the Burdekin River system in our corner of the world.  However in the looks department the Ord River system wins hands down!
A huge Boab tree greets you as you enter Kununarra.

We went up to Kelly's Knob lookout in Kununarra which gives you a great visual panorama of the surrounding landscape.

Lake Argyle and Lake Kununarra are two of the treasures of this area, photos of which I will feature in the next blog. The other gifts of Mother Nature are the rock formations - sculptured by nature they rival any human artisan. Although I must say the handmade rock scultures at Zebra Rock Gallery were fantastic!  Zebra Rock and Ribbon Rock are specific to this area of the world, and the artist has made the most of the amazing colours and striations in the rock to create these amazing sculptures. My Christmas pressie is on order!

Zebra Rock - I wasn't allowed to go mining my own - the rights are owned by  local businesses and artisans. Boo Hoo!

My Chrissy Present is a large Zebra Head handcrafted from the local stone!  It was brilliant, the artisan used the colour in the rock to help to decide what he will craft it into. Roll on Chrissy! Kids start saving your pennies, because this gift aint cheap! Yeah!!
